报告人简介：
曹立群，男，美籍华人教授，1993年博士毕业于美国辛辛那提大学社会学专业(University of Cincinnati)，曾先后执教于美国迈阿密大学 (Miami University)、赛伦州立大学 (Salem State University)和东密西根大学 (Eastern Michigan University)。2008年被加拿大安大略科技大学聘为终身教授。曹立群教授长期致力于犯罪社会学领域的研究，是“华人社会犯罪学研究会”（Association of Chinese Criminology and Criminal Justice）创建会长(2010-2012)。曾在国际专业杂志，包括专业内一流的杂志Criminology，Social Forces， Journal of Criminal Justice 和Justice Quarterly 上发表学术论文70多篇，其中50篇收录在SSCI的核心学术期刊上，学术成果突出。此外，曹立群教授主持过美国国家法务所的重大项目，是美国国家科学基金（NSF）的审委，曾获第12届国际犯罪学大会最佳青年学者论文奖。2008年在全美法务学会年会Donal MacNamara Award。
报告内容简介：
中国软实力的影响日益增强，使中西方之间的交流也随之受到越来越多的关注。历经一百多年来的“向西方学习”，中国正在成为这个世界不可分割的一部分。然而在中国，许多对西方字、词及专业术语表浅的翻译却在不断地分割我们对这个世界的认识。本研究的目的是要审查“方法”这个在社会学中广泛使用的术语，并对这个术语的滥用和误读作出讨论。本研究将重点关注“方法”这个术语的意思及其在中文的误读、误释。
With growing influence of China in the area of its soft power, there is also increased attention paid to the communication between the West and China.After 100 years of “learning from the West,” China is becoming an integrated part of the world but a lot of superficial translations of words and phrases continue to separate our understanding of the world.This study examines a widely used word in sociology -- “method”-- as a reaction to the misuse and misunderstanding of this term.I pay special attention to the meaning of the term “method” and its misinterpretation in Chinese.
